Wicked Pissah

Boston baby! That's right, we just returned from a very short trip to Boston Mass. We'd never been, and in theory it's only a 6 hour drive from home so we decided to take a long weekend and head up. The drive up wasn't too bad, thankfully. We also decided to park at the T station in Quincy and ride the train into the city rather than pay the exorbitant parking fees at our hotel. And it worked out rather well if I do say so myself. Once we got off the train it was just a quick walk to our hotel. We stayed in the Omni Parker House, which is a historic Boston hotel. Historic = teeny tiny rooms, but it was fine for a few nights and was really right in the heart of the city. On our first night we walked down to Long Wharf and just looked around. It was so pretty down there. Didn't stay too long though because we wanted to get up early for our "trolley" tour of the city.

So day two and we're ready to explore. We headed right to the trolley and off we went. We drive past Paul Revere's house where Ryan asked, Paul Revere? Like from the Beastie Boys? HA! Our first stop was the Charlestown Navy Yard where we saw the USS Constitution and the USS Casin Young. The boys loved it. A "pirate" ship and a WWII Destroyer. After touring the naval yard we headed over to our duck splash in the Boston Harbor. A cool little boat tour. Best of all it was free with our trolley tickets. Sweet! From there we headed over to Quincy Maaaahket and Faneuil Hall for some lunch and some shopping. After that we went over to Boston Common and Boston Public Gardens where we went on the Swan Boats, which were very cool. And really very cheap to ride! After we toured the rest of the city we decided to have some dinner outside and then, much to their delight, we let the boys run around in an outdoor water fountain. I think it was almost the highlight of their trip. Almost.

Day three we went on a whale watch. (More on that in a separate post) After which we toured the Old North Church and then headed back to Quincy Maaaaahket. This time Ryan saw the statue of Sam Adams and said, he's the guy who makes beer, right? I don't know what he's learning in school?? After spending the evening in the market we went back to our room to pack for home. Boo. We didn't want to leave. The boys said it was the best vacation ever. And you know, I might almost have to agree with them. Almost, if it wasn't for the 9+ hours it took us to get home in the rain. Wicked pissah. But Boston rocked. It was a very cool city. And an awesome mini vacation. We can't wait to go back, but maybe, next time, we'll take an airplane ;)
