An awesome experience

A few weeks back we got a call from the Orioles telling us that Shawn was picked to be an honorary bat boy. Awesome! But what? How did that happen? Apparently it was a sweepstakes sponsored by Giant Food, one boy and one girl are picked for home games. Not sure if it's every home game or just some. And Shawn was picked!! When they said Giant foods I immediately thought of Grandma and Poppy since I know that's where they shop and wouldn't you know it, it was Poppy who entered Shawn in the contest. The O's rep told us that we were to get 5 free tickets to the game and Shawn would get to do all kinds of cool stuff. Apparently Joe got to pick the game and he thought a night game would be better since it's summer. How was he to know that the date he picked, July 23rd, Baltimore would see record high temps. I believe it was 102 degrees at game time. Game time which was 7:05 PM!!! Poor Shawn (and the rest of us) had to suffer through heat starting at 4 PM which is when we got to the stadium. Ugh. It was miserable. Miserable I tell you. We were all soaked to the bone in sweat by the time we left, after the 6th inning, at 9 PM. 5 hours in that heat was miserable. Did i say miserable? But, Shawn got to go to batting practice, meet players, got tons of autographs and was announced and put on the big screen before the game. I'd say 5 hours of miserable was totally worth it for him to get that experience. He loved it. Thanks so much to Poppy and Grandma for sweating with us. And thanks so much to Poppy for entering Shawn in the contest. It was awesome!
